In these paintings entitled “Ghosts,” I oxidize sheet silver with a solution of liver or sulfur (sulfurated potash), with the occasional addition of oil paint. This oxidation process gives equal precedence to accident and control. The surfaces are protected with Renaissance Wax, a microcrystalline wax developed by the British Museum.
The element of ritual and the repetition of images are important, since l often copy the same figure from one painting to the next as a meditative exercise. taking my lead from Tantric paintings and Giorgio Morandi.
